Meet Our Team
Susan has been working in the field of elderly/geriatric care for her entire adult life. “My very first job was in a nursing home when I was 16,” she says. “I never looked back.”
Today Susan is in her 34th year working as an RN. She says she knew Independence Health was the place for her from the moment she read the job description. The reason: because she knew it would give her the opportunity to build client relationships.
“I had been working in long-term care, and I was frustrated with how task-focused rather than care-focused it had become,” she said. “The patient gets lost in the mix, but the patient is why you’re there.”
Susan doesn’t mince words when it comes to the subject of caring for people.
“Most people don’t understand what that role of caregiver truly means,” she says. “You don’t understand it until you actually do it. Whenever you’re dealing with a human being, it’s not the same as other jobs, you need to be in it for the right reasons.
“It’s vital for me to provide the best care for the individual, and it takes a lot, but I truly love what I do.”
