Every day, we’re reminded of the powerful difference our Adult Day Program makes in the lives of families in our community, creating a space where older adults can thrive and caregivers can find peace of mind. For many, our program is more than just a safe, supportive space—it’s a lifeline that brings connection, purpose, and joy to both clients and their caregivers. This essential work depends on generous donors like you. With rising costs and a growing demand for services, we need your support to keep this life-changing program accessible to everyone who needs it.

One family who has found solace in our Adult Day Program is Marianne and her daughter, Nora. Marianne, who has led a full, vibrant life, found herself in need of daily support as she grew older. An independent spirit, Marianne has lived through many adventures—she was once a switchboard operator during the Kennedy era, she served in the Springfield legislature office, and loved cooking homemade Sicilian meals for her family. But when her husband, Ben, passed away, she moved in with Nora, who took on the role of caregiver while also balancing her career as a teacher.

“I used to worry constantly about her being alone all day,” Nora says. “My mom has always been so independent, but I could see that she was lonely and
needed more interaction. I wanted her to have a place to go where she could be active, safe, and around people. Finding the Adult Day Program was such a relief.”

Now, three days a week, Marianne joins us at Independence Health & Therapy, where she spends her time here surrounded by friends and engaging in activities that bring her joy. “I really enjoy the art projects, the garden, and the puzzles,” Marianne shares with a smile. “The staff are wonderful, and there’s always something to look forward to.” Marianne’s days are filled with conversation, laughter, and activities that keep her mind sharp and her spirit lifted. For Nora, knowing her mom is in a safe, welcoming environment has brought immense peace of mind. “Without this program, I’d probably have to retire early to care for her full-time,” she admits.

At Independence Health & Therapy, we believe that no one should feel isolated or disconnected as they grow older. With your support, we can continue providing this invaluable resource to families like Marianne and Nora’s. Your gift makes a direct impact—helping older adults stay engaged, maintain independence, and enjoy the companionship and care they deserve.

This holiday season, please consider making a donation to support our Adult Day Program. Together, we can ensure that families like Marianne and Nora’s continue to receive the support they need to thrive. Thank you for helping us bring comfort, connection, and community to those who need it most.

With gratitude,
