Dear Friend,

Every day, families in our community face the difficult reality of caring for a loved one who can no longer manage on their own. The desire to provide comfort and safety is strong, but the weight of that responsibility can be emotionally, physically, and financially overwhelming.

At Independence Health & Therapy, we see these challenges every day, and we also see the incredible transformations that happen when caregivers and their loved ones find the support they need. Families rediscover hope. Loved ones rediscover joy.

Cindy and her mother, Nancy, are one of those families.

When Nancy first came to Independence Health & Therapy’s Adult Day Program, her daughter, Cindy, wasn’t sure what to expect. Caring for her mother was an all-consuming responsibility, one she shouldered alone after losing her sister to breast cancer. Between working full-time and managing her mother’s care, each day was a balancing act. You see, Nancy, a former ski instructor, suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis, which have taken a toll on her ability to do a lot of things that she was able to do before, everyday things like preparing meals, doing laundry, and driving herself to places she wanted or needed to go.

Then everything changed.

“That’s when my friend told me about Independence Health & Therapy,” said Cindy, “And I was like, oh, my gosh, that would be perfect for my mom.” Nancy found more than a place to spend the day; she found a new beginning. “It’s her newfound safe place,” Cindy shared. “She’s smiling. She’s laughing. She’s herself again.”

Other than attending church, Nancy was depressed and socially isolated while living on her own. Now that she attends Independence Health & Therapy’s Day Program, for the first time in years, Nancy’s emotional, physical, and social needs are being met. She enjoys activities that keep her moving, meals that nourish her, and friendships that lift her spirits.

And for Cindy, the program has been a lifeline.

“It’s a huge relief,” she said. “I can work again without feeling guilty or distracted. I know she’s safe, cared for, and happy. I enjoy hearing about her day when she gets home. She smiles, she laughs, and is eager to discuss how her day was. Everyone deserves the right to live.”

Stories like Nancy’s are why Independence Health & Therapy exists. Every day, our Adult Day Program gives adults a place to thrive and gives their caregivers peace of mind, balance, and support.

But we can’t do it without you.

Your donation helps us continue to provide this safe, nurturing environment for families in our community who are navigating the challenges of caregiving.

Please make a gift today to help ensure more families like Cindy’s find hope, healing, and connection at Independence Health & Therapy.
